DStv Maintenance & Repairs in Hoedspruit

Heat, storms and wildlife wear a satellite system down faster than you'd think. We realign, replace and reseal so your DStv keeps working.

Common Maintenance Jobs

Dish Realignment

Wind, storms and a bump from a ladder can move a dish just enough to weaken the signal. We re-point it with a meter and tighten the mount.

Cable & Connector Renewal

Sun-baked or chewed cable and corroded connectors are cut out and replaced, and outdoor joins are resealed.

LNB Replacement

An ageing LNB causes dropouts that come and go. We test it and fit a new one where needed — or a twin unit if you're planning Extra View.

Decoder Checks & Swaps

We check the decoder's connections and settings, and install and set up a replacement when an old unit has had its day.

What We Check on a Service Visit

Dish alignment measured with a signal meter
Mount, bracket and mast bolts tightened
LNB condition and output check
Outdoor connectors inspected and resealed
Cable checked for sun, water and animal damage
Loose cable fixed or moved into conduit
Signal quality tested at every TV point
Decoder connections and settings checked

Why Bushveld Installations Need Looking After

A satellite dish is outdoor equipment, and around Hoedspruit it lives a hard life. Roofs get very hot in summer, storms bring wind and heavy rain, and monkeys and baboons are curious about anything that hangs loose. None of this usually breaks a system overnight. Instead the signal margin slowly shrinks until one wet evening the picture starts breaking up. Regular attention from a local DSTV installer in Hoedspruit keeps that margin healthy.

The dish itself is the first check. We measure signal strength and quality with a meter rather than trusting the decoder's bar, then fine-tune the alignment and tighten the mount. A dish on a pole or a lightweight bracket may need a sturdier fixing if it keeps moving. Next is the LNB, which does the hardest work on the whole system and is the part most likely to wear out; its symptoms are dropouts that come and go, often worse in heat or rain.

Cable and connectors come next. UV-damaged outer sheathing, water that has found its way into an F-connector, or a section a monkey has chewed will all cost signal. We replace damaged lengths, reseal every outdoor join, and move vulnerable runs into conduit or fix them tight to the wall. Inside, we check the decoder connections and settings, and if an old decoder is failing we can install and set up its replacement.

For lodges and guesthouses, a check-up timed before the busy season avoids a guest-facing failure; our business installation page explains how larger systems are set up. If something has already stopped working, the quick checks on our DStv error code help page are worth trying first.

CALL TO BOOK

There is no fixed rule, but a check before the summer storm season is sensible, especially for older installations or properties where animals have access to the cable. If you notice the picture breaking up more often, don't wait.

We measure the signal at the dish and at each TV, check the mount and bolts, inspect and reseal outdoor connectors, look for damaged cable, test the LNB and check the decoder connections. Anything worn is quoted before it is replaced.

We diagnose decoder problems on site and sort out connection and setup issues. Where the decoder itself has failed, replacing it is often the practical option — we'll tell you honestly which makes sense.

As a guide, a call-out with testing and diagnosis starts from R550 in town. Parts such as an LNB, cable or connectors are quoted separately before they are fitted, and properties outside town are quoted per site.

We replace the damaged section and remove the temptation: cable fixed tight to the wall, no loose loops, and exposed runs moved into conduit. Nothing is completely animal-proof, but this makes a big difference.
